My dear Father Guido, For a good many years past, the English Bishops are averse to admitting Priests who have served in other dioceses: & if, by way of exception, they do admit any one, on account of being in want of Priests, they usually place such a new comer in some out of the way place, calculated to make the Priest discontended even though he was determined to do his best. We must expect that your Friend would fare in the same way were he to come over to England. Moreover at his age the question becomes more difficult, as he most probably could not be admitted into the society which provides for aged & infirm Priests, in most dioceses. Hence I should dissuade him from coming. If however he be still anxious to come, either the Oblates of S. Charles or the Order of charity (Rosminians) would probably suit him best. Should both you & your Friend be of that opinion I shall be happy to forward your letter to either, since it gives a clear statement of the case.
