df47 |aEldon House Queen's Rd Clapham Park. Friday April 14th 1871 Dear Père Gezelle, I write with a very little time to spare to ask you kindly to assist two Cousins of mine <+by marriage> - Two daughters of old Mr Langdale who used to interest himself so much when alive in the cause of the Education of the Catholic poor. Fanny & Constance Langdale are not quite old maids, but past middle age maids! The youngest is terribly afflicted, half her face eaten away with disease - so it is well to prepare you - They want to reside in Bruges a few months having {<-[x]><+l>}et their London house for the season. I have recommended them to go to the "Hotel de Commerce" - first there you will find them - They say they must be there next Monday or Tuesday - Will you then put them in the way of finding with as little delay as possible, two bed rooms & one sitting room, where they can live quietly & comfortably & be waited on as they bring no maid or servant of any kind - They are both excellent good people, who spend all their time in good works, Fanny is very active, Constance in consequence of her affliction never shows herself except to very near relations, & wears a thick veil when she goes out - How I should like just to pop over to poor old Bruges & see you! Why have you never come to see us - Do come soon for Mary has been at home now a year, & she intends leaving me to be a sister of Charity in a few months time, so unless you come soon you will not see her - I have often talked of writing to you in the hope of having another nice long letter from you, but my time is so much occupied, time flies - We visit the poor two days in the week and meet once a week at Clapham to work for the Altar Society, & then home duties take up the other three days. My cousins will be able to give you very little news of us, we so seldom go to London - so come if you care at all about us & see for yourself what our little home is like - I often think of you & all your kindness to us - I wrote to the Bankers Bae{<-i><+y>} in Rue des Aiguilles, & asked them to pay you the money I owe the printer, will you kindly take the money & discharge the debt for me - He is to pay it when he receives my money from the Papal Loan. Ossy is farming away in Staffordshire, ready at any moment to be off again & fight for the Pope - Poor France! She will never be right again - till all her wicked ones are slaughtered & they are killing each other! & Paris will be burnt to the ground - There are meetings of republicans taking place in London now, with Minotti Garribaldi. Is it not wonderful that with the example of what republicanism is doing in France people should be so mad as to listen to any thing of the kind here! But England too, with her love of Riches Luxury, & Pride of Intellect must have her scourge, before she {<-b><+c>}an become docile as the little child ready to receive the Grace of God, & conversion - Remember me very kindly to all friends - Miss Bird, Whitgreaves, how do they get on? Mrs Berrington, is her husband with her again? - Grangers, &c &c. And do let me hear of our good Curé of St Anne, I liked him so much - do you ever see him now that he lives in the country - mind if you do {<-you><+see>} him you remember me to him & ask him to pray for me - and remember me to his three Priests who used to play croquet with us. - Now do come & see us - {<=Yrs>[=Yours]} sincerely & respectfully Mary C. Kavanagh Maurice & Mary wish to be most specially remembered to you -
